I’m considering having some building work carried out, where do I start?

If you are considering having building works carried out to your property/premises you will firstly need to find out if planning permission is required. Burton Group offer a free no obligation initial survey/consultation meeting at your property to determine if planning permission will be necessary and to discuss your options for moving forward with your project.

How do I go about obtaining Planning Permission?

Once you have established that planning permission will be required, you must apply to your Local Authority Office who will be able to offer advice and guidance. Will I need to employ an Architect?

Not necessarily. If you have an Architect on board then that’s great, we have formed close working relationships with a number of Architects over the years. If you do not have an Architect on board then we could recommend an Architect. But, with our own in-house design/planning team we certainly have the resources, expertise and experience to help you achieve your proposals without employing an Architect. How much will my project cost?

Every project is different. The cost of your project will depend on the chosen specification and your specific requirements. Burton Group offer a free no obligation quotation service at very competitive prices.

I have a set budget can you work to it?

If you have a set budget, Burton Group are more than happy to discuss the different cost-cutting options that may be available to help you achieve your proposals.

When can you start?

Once we are in receipt of your letter of intent, we aim to start works within 4-8 weeks (sometimes sooner). This is dependant on current workloads at any given time and the size of your project.

How long will the project take?

Before commencing the works we will arrange a pre-contract meeting on site to issue a detailed programme of scheduled works and to discuss any concerns/questions you may have before we commence the works.

Who will oversee my project?

On the larger projects that we carry out they will generally have a dedicated site manager who will work onsite alongside the tradesman to deal with the day to day running of the project and to ensure that your project comes in on time and within budget. The smaller projects would be overseen by dedicated tradesman onsite, which would be closely overseen and managed by contracts in the office.

On completion of the works do you offer any guarantee or warranty?

We can offer insurance backed building warranty’s through the Federation of Master Builders or comprehensive building bonds through many insurance companies specialising in this service. All can be individually tailored to meet your needs.

As members of the NHBC all new build works can be covered under their fully backed insurance scheme.

Are you insured to carry out work on my property/premises?

We are fully insured to the following values;
Public Liability Insurance - £5,000,000
Employers Liability Insurance - £10,000,000

Do you work under a form of contract?

We can offer a very simple Plain English Building Contract that comes generically written or provide more extensive forms of contract on request under JCT to suit the size of your project.

Can you provide references?

Previous client references can be obtained on request if required.

I’d like some bespoke furniture made what can you offer?

We can literally make anything & everything! Just get in touch to discuss your requirements with our joinery surveying team.

Do you provide free quotations?

Absolutely! Once we have agreed on the works a free no obligation quote will be provided. A site survey may also be required if you require us to fit your bespoke furniture/joinery.

Can you help with designing my Kitchen/Bedroom Furniture/Study etc?

Many of our clients come to us with just a basic concept or a picture from a glossy magazine. From there our design team can then produce real visual concepts using computer aided technology. This is particularly useful when design/planning larger projects like a kitchen.
